A test for true LovE

Someone send me this story some times ago which I think is pretty interesting and would like to share with you guys, enjoy the story..

Lt.John Blanchard was in New York City at Grand Central Station, and he looked up at the big clock. It was five till six. His heart was racing so fast. At exactly six o’clock, he was going to meet the girl whom he thought he was in love with, but he had never even met her. He has been in Florida during WW II and while he was there he we went to a library to check out a book. He flipped through a book and noticed that someone had made notes in the margins. He read the notes and said to himself, “I would love to meet whoever wrote these notes–they seem so kind, gentle and wise.”

He saw in the front of the book a name–Harlyss Maynell, NYC. With a NY City phone book he set out to try to find her. He did and he wrote her a letter and was then shipped back overseas to fight in the war.

Harlyss actually replied to his letter and they began writing back and forth to one another throughout the war. One time John confessed in a letter that he was scared when they flew over to Germany. Harlyss replied that “All brave men are afraid at times. Next time, you are afraid, just say, ‘Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me.’”

John started having romantic feelings toward Harlyss through these letter and he wanted her picture but she replied, “No, I won’t. Relationships are not built on what people look like.” Longing to meet her, the day finally came when he would come back to he States on leave. He told her he wanted to take her to dinner so she arranged to meet him in New York City’s Grand Central Station at 6 p.m. under the big clock. “You’ll know who I am because I’ll be wearing a red rose,” she told him.
The day came and this is how John described his first meeting with Harlyss:
“A young woman was coming toward me, her figure long and slim. She had blonde hair that lay back in curls from her delicate ears. Her eyes were as blue as flowers. Her lips and chin had a gentle firmness, and in a pale green suit, she looked like spring-time come alive!”

He started toward her, forgetting to see that she was not wearing a red rose. He moved toward her and she smiled.

“Going my way, soldier?” she asked coyly. He stepped closer to her and notice...Harlyss Maynell with the red rose in her coat. His heart sank. She was well past forty and had graying hair tucked into a worn hat. Her thick ankles were in low shoes and the girl in green was quickly walking away. He had to quickly make a choice. Stay or follow the beautiful girl.

He didn’t hesitate and smiled at the older woman. He was disappointed when he said, “You must be Miss Maynell. I’m so glad you could meet me. Will you join me for dinner?”

The older woman’s face broadened into a smile and she said, “I don’t know what this is about, son” she replied, “but you know that young woman in the green suit who just went by? I met her on the train. She begged me to wear this rose in my coat. She said that if you should ask me to dinner, to tell you she’s waiting for you in that big restaurant across the street. She said it was some kind of a test.”
